About us
A consulting company that builds what it recommends.
Buildience helps businesses decide what to build and then builds it.
- What we do
- We provide forward deployed engineers, take on defined technical projects, and build products from their first version.
- Who we help
- Founders, startups, product teams and established businesses that need engineering capacity or expertise they don't have in-house right now.
Advice only helps once someone implements it.
A lot of technical advice ends up as a document. The team that receives it still has to find the time, people and context to act on it, and that's usually where things stall.
We set up Buildience to do both halves of the job. Our engineers help work out what should be built, then build it, alongside the people who know the business best.
Whichever way we work, the aim is software that keeps working in your environment after we step back.
How we work
These principles shape how we work with client teams.
Principle 01
Learn the problem from the people who have it
Before proposing anything, we talk to the people closest to the work and look at how it really happens. The problem described in the first meeting isn't always the one worth solving.
Principle 02
Agree what “done” means
Each piece of work has a written goal and a way to check it, so progress is visible and nobody has to guess whether it's working.
Principle 03
Make technical decisions you can live with
We prefer proven tools, simple architecture and choices your team can maintain. Where there's a trade-off, we explain it plainly and let you decide.
Principle 04
Work in the open
You get direct access to the engineers doing the work, so there's no black box to unpack at the end.
Principle 05
Leave your team able to run it
Handing over is part of the job, so you aren't dependent on us once the work is finished.
Values
- 01
Ownership
When we take on a problem, we treat it as ours until it works.
- 02
Honesty
We'll tell you the trade-offs before you decide.
- 03
Collaboration
We work with your people rather than around them, and share what we learn as we go.
- 04
Craft
Readable, tested, secure code that another engineer can pick up without a guided tour.
- 05
Practicality
The simplest approach that solves the problem, whether that's new software, an integration or a process change.
Have a problem you'd like a second pair of hands on?
Tell us what you're working on. We'll give you an honest view of how we'd approach it.
What happens next
- 1
We read your message and reply, often with a few questions.
- 2
If it looks like a fit, we suggest a call to understand the context.
- 3
We follow up with how we'd approach it.
